Where to Start? The fundamentals how to buy solar system
1) How much energy do you use?
Pickup your electrical energy bill and there will be a little square box with a chart of daily average electricity usage. Keep looking it's there. a
The average Australian household with gas uses 21kWh a day .
What does that 21kWh mean ?
One 100 watt light bulb left on for an hour = 100watt hour
If you had ten 100 watt light bulbs left on for an hour that would equal?
100w's x 10 x 1Hr = 1000 watt/Hr or 1kWh as k is for 1000watts.
Your usage (load) is all your lights and appliances used over time.
for example on one day (drop the Hr)
50 inch plasma TV @ 0.5kwatts used for 3hrs=1.5kW
+
heater @ 1.2kwatts used 4hrs =4.2kW
+
7 halogen lights @50watts each on for 7hrs = 0.35kW etc

Solar panels systems are sold in different wattage's 1kw 2kw 5kw etc.
1kw solar system will make 1000watts with the sun directly on it after an hour= 1kWh. As the sun moves across the sky that power out put changes and other things like clouds, trees get in the way and reduce this out put.
But on average for a year or one kilowatt system fixed on a north Sydney roof should produce average of 5 kilowatts a day.
If you're using 21 kilowatts a day as above how much power will 1 one kilowatt system provide. 5 divided into 21kWh the homes average usage above=24% of the energy bill.
To cover all your energy usage? from above house,
21 divided by 5
equals between 4kW and 5 kW solar system.
3) Return on Investment
What ever system you buy the Gov rebates the power generation through REC payment system Most installers ask for the rebate transferred to them so they charge you less for the installed system.
Then electricity retailer will buy the electricity off you for more that they sell it to you.
called Feed in tariff.
In NSW its $0.20-26cents a kWhr so 3kW system should make you about $1455 of sales to the grid a year.
2) What system?
